Our volunteer Patient Transportation Program provides transportation to and from medical appointments at Fairchild Medical Center and Fairchild Medical Clinic for patients located in Yreka, Montague, Grenada, Hornbrook and the surrounding area.
This entirely free program is made possible by the men and women of the FMC Auxiliary who volunteer drive approximately two days each month.
Patients wishing to utilize this program must make a transportation reservation by calling 530-842-3507.
Reservations are available on a first-come first-serve basis and transportation is typically available Monday - Thursday.
Our transportation van is now available to also transport patients in wheelchairs and those utilizing walkers.
We’re looking for volunteers, with good driving records, to donate 1 to 2 days per month to drive our FMC Auxiliary Patient Transportation Van and provide rides for patients living in the Yreka, Montague, Grenada and Hornbrook areas. This program provides a life changing service to patients struggling with transportation to and from their medical appointments. You can be a life changer for others in our community.
I began driving for the FMC Auxiliary Volunteer Patient Transportation Program in 2014. Bob Vance rode with me the first day to ensure that I understood my role as a new driver.
As a follower of Jesus I was looking for a volunteer program to participate in so that I could better serve Him and our community. My wife, June, also an Auxiliary member suggested that I apply to the Auxiliary as a van driver. It was a great suggestion.
I am very blessed by and get a great deal of joy out of helping other people get to their medical appointments. Many have no other means of transportation other than the hospital van. Meeting other people and listening to their stories of family issues, their pains, good humor and sometimes their hope for a better future, I believe, is good medicine in itself.
Another public volunteer service activity that is very important to me is preparing and serving lunches to the homeless and financially disadvantaged on Main Street every Sunday afternoon. This is the “Tailgate Ministry” of the Yreka United Methodist Church.
I also volunteer as member of the Lions Club. In addition, I am a member of the Board of Directors of the Siskiyou Family YMCA. As a board member, I have many opportunities to volunteer. Currently I am involved with installation of a video surveillance system.
I find it hard to believe that volunteerism is on the decline when one can get so much joy out of being a volunteer. It is my hope that those of you who read this will consider becoming a member of the FMC Auxiliary and serving as a driver or a front desk greeter.
There are many ways to serve as a volunteer member of the Fairchild Medical Center Foundation. To become a volunteer, please complete the appropriate application.
FMC Auxiliary volunteers provide services in patient care areas (Medical/Surgery, OB, Outpatient and Emergency Department). They also staff the Information Desk/Patient Check-In which is one of the most important services provided as it presents the first impression of the hospital.
In addition, the Auxiliary operates a very successful gift shop which is noted throughout the community for its unique merchandise. The Auxiliary also provides a patient transport van that takes patients to and from their appointments at the FMC Clinic or main hospital. The Transportation System Program enables men as well as women to volunteer their services as van drivers.
Volunteers range in age from nineteen (19) to ninety (90) and the variety in the types of services available provide an opportunity for volunteers to find a job that is enjoyable and fulfilling to their individual personality.

Coming to the hospital as a young child can be a difficult experience. Many children find hospital's frightening and in addition to the physical pain they main be experience may also experience emotional distress.
We want to make their experience here at Fairchild Medical Center as pleasant as possible. We want to reassure them that every adult here wants to help and care for them in a gentle and genuine way.
That's why we created our Bear with Me program. Every child who visits our Emergency Department, as well as in-patient or out-patient units will receive a small stuffed teddy bear that is theirs to hold, cuddle, bond with and take home at the end of their care experience.
Our bear, F.R.E.D. is friendly, respectful, encouraging and dedicated to being a friend.
The Fairchild Medical Center Auxiliary is proud to support the efforts of Donate Life America to register organ and tissue donors. Annually in the month of April the FMX Auxiliary hosts Donate Life Day in the hospital lobby.
During the Christmas holidays the Fairchild Medical Center Auxiliary members gift new throw blankets to patients staying in the hospital. These soft, cuddly blankets provide a little touch of home to our patients who are unable to be in their own homes during the holidays.
The Fairchild Medical Center Auxiliary is proud to support our local high school students who are graduating with a plan to pursue higher education. Annually the FMC Auxiliary awards a scholarship to two deserving high school students.
