CLINICAL LABORATORY AND ANATOMIC PATHOLOGY

Accurate Results And Expert Diagnosis

FULLY ACCREDITED BY THE JOINT COMMISSION

Clinical laboratory testing plays a crucial role in the detection, diagnosis and treatment of disease. Our licensed staff work hard behind the scenes to ensure providers are able to provide the most effective care to our patient population.

Laboratory services are available 24 hours a day focusing on inpatient and emergency department patients. If you present for an outpatient draw outside of outpatient hours, you may experience a longer than average wait time.

Fairchild Medical Center’s laboratory is fully accredited by the State of California and The Joint Commission. Our laboratory team consists of highly skilled board-certified pathologists, licensed Clinical Laboratory Scientists (CLS) and licensed Certified Phlebotomy Technicians (CPT). We provide:

  • Outpatient phlebotomy (blood draws)
  • Anatomic pathology services
  • Transfusion services
  • Hematology/coagulation studies
  • Clinical chemistry testing
  • Urinalysis testing
  • Molecular testing
  • Microbiology testing

When you choose Fairchild Medical Center to handle your laboratory needs, you can expect outstanding service. Our Certified Phlebotomy Technicians (CPTs) are the face of the laboratory. They perform blood draws in a friendly, quick and efficient manner. Our outpatient blood draws are walk-in only and the average wait time under 20 minutes!

Once your blood draw is complete, the samples are analyzed and results reviewed by a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS). Our CLSs are highly educated and experienced, working behind the scenes to ensure your lab results are accurate before they reach the provider.

The Anatomical Pathology department receives tissues, body fluids and other specimens that are collected during procedures outside of the laboratory. Examples include biopsies, body fluids and surgical specimens requiring analysis. The specimens are brought to our pathology laboratory where they are processed, stained and prepared appropriately for one of our board-certified pathologists to analyze. A macroscopic, as well as a microscopic exam are generally performed. Our pathologists look at the prepared specimens under a microscope and are able to distinguish between noncancerous and cancerous cells as well as other abnormalities.

When laboratory and pathology results are verified in our Laboratory Information System (Epic, Beaker), there are a couple of routes they may take to reach your provider. If the provider is within the Epic system, they may get a notification in their inbox notifying them the results are in your chart and available for viewing. If the provider prefers a fax, the results are digitally faxed by the system to the providers associated with the order.

You are able to view your lab results in MyChart. Though most test results are able to be viewed immediately when verified, some test results must be reviewed by your provider prior to being visible in MyChart.

FMC continuously invests in laboratory instrumentation and information systems and is able to provide a wide range of advanced diagnostic tests. Over 150 different tests are able to be performed in-house. Requested tests that are unable to be performed in-house are sent to our reference laboratory. Specimens are transported to our reference laboratory six days a week (closed Sundays).
