On Saturday, December 3, 2016 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. YREKA COMMUNITY CENTER will be turned into a children’s activity area – designed to ensure a great time for the whole family.
Begin the morning with a Pancake Breakfast for just $4.00 for adults, $3.00 for children. Everyone, young and old is encouraged to come to the delicious breakfast, prepared by Fairchild Medical Center Foundation’s Board of Directors and Volunteers.
Santa will be available from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. for pictures. The kids will be able to create unique ornaments, holiday decorations, and shop in the “Kids Gift Shoppe” (no parents allowed!), where for just 50 cents to three dollars, kids can find and wrap great gifts for all of their loved ones. Storytellers and a few very talented local singers will make this a joyous event for the whole family. Activity ticket costs range from 50 cents to two dollars, making it an affordable and fun filled day. Gift Certificates are available in the Foundation Office, so if you know of a child that would love to attend Share the Magic, you can purchase a gift certificate for them to use that day!
Fairchild Medical Center Auxiliary gets into the spirit of Christmas with themed gift baskets that are made up by the employees of the hospital and other related healthcare professionals. The baskets have themes such as “Getting in the Spirit”, “Country Chirstmas”, Monday Night Football and a Go-Pro to name a few. As a Nation, our greatest resource is our people. We each have the power to strengthen the fabric of our society and make the world a better place. Every day, Americans across the country realize this enormous potential through service to others and by giving back to their communities. During National Volunteer Week, April 11th through the 15th, we recognize those who embrace a life of active, energetic, and engaged citizenship, and we reaffirm our belief that all people have something to contribute to their community.
The first Doctors’ Day observance was March 30, 1933, in Winder, Georgia. The idea came from Eudora Brown Almond, wife of Dr. Charles B. Almond, and the date chosen was the anniversary of the first use of general anesthesia in surgery (on March 30, 1842, in Jefferson, Ga., Dr. Crawford Long used ether to anesthetize a patient before Dr. John Collins Warren surgically removed a tumor from the patient's neck). The United States Senate and House of Representatives passed S.J. RES. #366, which President Bush signed on October 30, 1990 (creating Public Law 101-473), designating Doctors' Day as a national holiday to be celebrated on March 30.
